Systemic Neurophysiology

Research

The lab focusses on the neural dynamics related to learning and memory. First, we investigate how stable or dynamic neocortical and hippocampal representations are when mice repeatedly execute previously learned tasks over extended time periods. Second, we ask how representational drift (i.e., the fact that neuronal tuning changes over time despite the external stimuli remaining constant) can be reconciled with consistent behaviour and perception, probing drift at various levels from single neurons to large populations. Finally, we test how neuronal networks can integrate novel information in already existing schemata of task structure, seeking to understand the biological principles of continual learning.
