Molecular Neurophysiology

Techniques

The following list provides an overview on methodological approaches that are established in the laboratory and are used to monitor exocytosis at high time resolution.

Membrane capacitance measurements

Carbon fiber amperometry

Electrical measurements of exocytotic fusion pores

Photolysic ‘uncaging’ of intracellular calcium

Calcium imaging

In addition, we make use of trans gene technology (genetically-deficient mouse models), confocal and electron microscopy, biochemical techniques as well as gene transfer with viruses ( e.g. Semliki-Forest virus) to unravel the structure-function releationships of different synaptic proteins.
